We Care is teaming up with Morris Hospital Foundation and NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) for a FREE 12 week program called Family-to-Family. This program is for caretakers of a loved one who has a mental illness and is taught by NAMI  trained instructors who have been there, who understand what you are going through, because they have gone through it, too.

NAMI Family-to-Family not only provides information and strategies for taking care of the person you love, but you'll also find out that you're not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope.

The group setting of NAMI Family-to-Family provides mutual support and shared positive impact—experience compassion and reinforcement from people who understand your situation.

In the program, you'll learn about: how to solve problems and communicate effectively; taking care of yourself and managing your stress; supporting your loved one with compassion; finding and using local supports and services; up-to-date information on mental health conditions and how they affect the brain; how to handle a crisis; current treatments and therapies; and the impact of mental health conditions on the entire family.

If you are looking for help, if you are looking for change,  if you have a loved one with mental illness…Family-to-Family can help.

This free program begins Tuesday, August 27th from 6-8:30pm. Childcare and meals will be provided.

What are ACE’s and how do they effect a child’s development and chances of success as an adult?

The term “ACEs” is an acronym for Adverse Childhood Experiences.  There is a powerful, persistent correlation between the more ACEs experienced and the greater the chance of poor outcomes later in life.

The ACE’s Parenting Program provides parents with education about the effects of toxic stress, how to be trauma informed and build resiliency, how emotional intelligence, mindfulness and your own personal love language can help you better understand yourself, your child and your relationship, self regulation and coping strategies, practical solutions to parenting issues, brain science and how it is related to trauma, how adverse experiences may be effecting your child’s life, health and behavior and what to do about it.

If your child has experienced trauma or trauma is impacting your ability to parent, this FREE educational program may help.

The ACE’s program begins Wednesday, September 18 from 5-7pm. We meet every Wednesday for five weeks. Free childcare and meals are provided.

To register, please call We Care at 815-942.6389.

The ACE’s Parenting program is made possible by a grant from the Gerald D. Abel Endowment and the Community Foundation of Grundy County.
